BEMULSIONS |
|
Water based paints were first developed in the 1950’s with the aim of replacing the common organic solvent paint with water, which had the advantage of being non-combustible and non-toxic. (Stoye at al, 1993).
The most common type of water-based paint is the emulsion. Emulsions are excellent quality paints, environmentally friendly, and are mainly used on interior surfaces. Since their application and use are very simple, they can be used for painting new or already painted walls, giving them a consistent soft to the touch surface. They are available in a satin and mat finish and can be tinted in any shade, satisfying the consumers’ preferences. Emulsions can also be used to paint over plaster, puttied surfaces, cement surfaces, providing they have been primed appropriately.
